These paintings extend my sculptural practice into a two-dimensional space, exploring similar concerns with material, proportion, structure and the relationship between form and void.

Working with acrylic on heavy-weight Arches paper, I use simple geometric divisions to create quiet shifts in spatial perception. The textured surface of the paper is an integral part of the work, while translucent layers of paint build a subtle physical relief.

Each painting is made through a process of masking and layering, with the painted areas applied using a palette knife. The resulting lines sit between drawing, surface and object, retaining a sense of their material construction while defining and enclosing space.

Working within a restrained monochromatic palette, I am interested in balance, repetition and subtle variation. The paintings offer a more intimate, compressed exploration of the spatial relationships that also underpin my sculpture practice.
